It’s way more than that – Bali has a bunch of other cool spots and alternative attractions besides the beaches. One of the must-visit places when you’re on vacation in Bali is Ubud. Ubud is this traditional village that’s also a hot tourist destination in Gianyar Regency, Bali.
Ever since pre-independence times, Bali has been quite the hotspot for tourists. With all its beauty and exotic vibes, many visitors eventually settle down in Bali, and Ubud is often their chosen home. The cool and still-green atmosphere in Ubud is one of the reasons why they opt for it.
Now, with all the beauty Ubud has to offer, here is a rounded list of some fun activities for you to do while visiting Ubud.
Fun Activities in Ubud
Exploring the historical side of Gunung Kawi Ubud. Paying a visit to Gunung Kawi is one of our top recommendations when you’re in Ubud. The Gunung Kawi temple complex itself is a cultural heritage site with ancient stone-carved candis (temples). Besides the temples, you can find bathing pools and ancient fountains here.
There’s also a small vihara (Buddhist temple), so it’s likely that this area was used for meditation in the past. These temples are super old, estimated to have been built in the 11th century during the reign of King Udayana.
Tracing footsteps in Nyuh Kuning Village. Nyuh Kuning Village built based on the concept of Tri Hita Karana, which is all about maintaining harmony between humans and nature, humans and God, and humans with each other. The streets here are super clean, surrounded by frangipani trees and other lush greenery. Tourists can even stay in the villagers’ homes here.
So, experiencing Ubud through this traditional village is an activity we highly recommend to make the most of your time in Ubud.
Visiting Puri Saren Agung, the Ubud Royal Palace. Visiting Puri Saren Agung or Puri Ubud is an absolute must when you’re in Ubud. This palace has been standing since around the 17th century. Nowadays, Puri Ubud is a popular tourist spot in Ubud. There are usually dance performances here almost every evening, and one of the dances performed is the Ubud Barong Dance.
Hunting for souvenirs at Ubud Art Market. After checking out Puri Ubud, you can head straight to Ubud Art Market. This market is in a prime location, right in front of the Ubud Royal Palace. It’s divided into two sections: the western part specifically for selling Ubud-style souvenirs and handcrafts, and the eastern part for selling daily necessities. Usually, the vendors here sell a variety of souvenirs and handcrafted items directly from the artisans, so the prices are much cheaper. Of course, buying souvenirs is one of the fun things to do, right?
Going for a stroll or jog at Campuhan Ridge Walk. The Campuhan Ridge Walk in Ubud is a super popular tourist spot. Besides that, it’s often used as a pre-wedding photoshoot location for couples getting married in Bali. With its natural beauty, this area was even used as a filming location for the movie “Eat, Pray, and Love,” starring Hollywood A-lister Julia Roberts. That’s why we highly recommend checking out Campuhan Ridge Walk.
Exploring the lush Monkey Forest in Ubud. One of the top attractions in Ubud is Monkey Forest. This legendary tourist spot is a must-visit when you’re in the Ubud area. It’s located on Monkey Forest Street, Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali. The Monkey Forest is usually open from 08:30 to 18:00 local time.
There are many interesting things to do here, including interacting with the monkeys, visiting temples inside the forest, and soaking in the serene atmosphere of the Monkey Forest.
