Discover Magnificent Lakes in Bali

Discover Magnificent Lakes in Bali  – Explore Bali beyond its famous beaches by visiting its top lakes while on vacation. Apart from beach beauty, Bali offers opportunities for mountain hikes and stays in luxurious accommodations. Don’t overlook Bali’s must-see lakes, located farther from the city center, as they provide a refreshing escape from the bustling South Bali, primarily known for its beaches and nightlife. Choosing to explore these serene lake areas can offer a cooler climate and a chance for a quiet ambiance during your trip.

Here is a list of the best lakes in Bali.

Danau Batur (Kintamani)

Lake Batur, also known as Danau Batur, stands as Bali’s largest lake, nestled in the Kintamani District within Bangli Regency. The lake boasts breathtaking and awe-inspiring vistas, particularly during sunny days when its waters take on a deep blue hue reminiscent of the ocean. Equally stunning are the sunrise views. Lake Batur occupies the caldera formed by the past eruption of Mount Batur, evident in the presence of black volcanic stones at the mountain’s base. Accessible via a road leading to the front of Mount Batur’s eruption area, these rocky remnants offer a fascinating subject for photography, especially when juxtaposed against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains and the lake.

Along the lake’s shoreline, visitors can find hot springs, hotels, and restaurants. For those with extra time to spare, consider renting a boat to journey across to the traditional Bali village of Trunyan, known as Baliaga. These residents, the original inhabitants of Bali, uphold unique customs, notably in their treatment of the deceased. Instead of cremation (ngaben), they place the departed under a tree, a practice surprisingly devoid of any unpleasant odors, a distinctive aspect of the village.

Danau Beratan (Bedugul)

Lake Beratan, also known as Danau Baratan, situated in the Bedugul area of Baturiti, Tabanan Regency, stands out as a highly frequented attraction due to its stunning natural beauty. The lake’s captivating landscape is complemented by the presence of the enchanting Ulun Danu Beratan Temple along its shores, a site even featured on the 50,000 Rupiah banknote, making it a popular backdrop for photos among local tourists. Adjacent to the temple, a vibrant garden adorned with a colorful array of flowers and towering pine trees creates a lush and picturesque setting, particularly striking when capturing the pine trees against the backdrop of a clear, azure sky. For those seeking either a romantic ambiance or a delightful day out with friends, boat rentals are readily available on the lake.

Beyond Lake Beratan, if you are passionate about plants and flowers can explore the Eka Karya Bedugul Botanical Garden. While cars are permitted within the garden’s premises, motorcycle parking is situated outside. Following a delightful experience in the serene botanical garden, you can pay a visit to the Bedugul Market. Here, a wide array of items is on offer, including various fruits, notably strawberries, vibrant flowers, corn on the cob, snacks, and typical Balinese souvenirs.

Danau Buyan

Lake Buyan, also known as Danau Buyan, can be found in the Sukasada District of Buleleng Regency. Although its vistas may not rival the breathtaking beauty of Lake Batur and Lake Beratan, this lake possesses a distinct charm characterized by a cool and tranquil atmosphere. While the tourist facilities at this location are currently relatively basic, there is hope that the local government will enhance the site to bring it on par with the other lakes in the area.

In the vicinity of the lake, you’ll encounter numerous charming monkeys along the Denpasar-Singaraja connecting road. Additionally, in close proximity to Lake Buyan, lies the stunning Yeh Ketipat Temple. For those interested in chasing waterfalls, not the TLC song, you’re in luck as the nearby Gitgit Village offers access to three pristine waterfalls: Git-Git Waterfall, Tiered Waterfall, and Twin Waterfall. Clearly, there’s an abundance of exploration opportunities surrounding Lake Buyan as well!

Danau Tamblingan

Lake Tamblingan, or Danau Tamblingan, is situated adjacent to Lake Buyan and falls within the administrative boundaries of Banjar Buleleng Regency. Despite being the smallest of the four lakes in Bali, it possesses a unique and enchanting allure. The scenery in this area is equally captivating, with the nearby presence of Gubug Tamblingan Temple (Pura Gubug Tamblingan). In close proximity to Lake Tamblingan, you’ll come across the picturesque Munduk village nestled amid breathtaking hills. And, as a delightful bonus, there’s also a rather impressive Munduk waterfall nearby.

So, those are the must-visit lakes when you’re vacationing in Bali!
